YOU MIGHT NOT LIKE LIVING IN THOMASVILLE, GEORGIA IF…

Not everybody is going to love living in Thomasville, Georgia.

And that’s okay.

One thing I always tell people is that my job isn’t to convince you to move here.

My job is to help you figure out whether Thomasville is actually a good fit for the lifestyle you want.

Because while I absolutely love this town, I’ve lived here most of my life, raised my family here, and built my business here, there are definitely some things about Thomasville that aren’t for everyone.

So, let’s talk about them.

Entertainment

You might not like living in Thomasville if you need big-city entertainment.

Now don’t get me wrong.

We have festivals. We have concerts. We have community events. We have some fantastic restaurants. Our downtown is one of the best you’ll find anywhere.

But if your idea of a great weekend involves professional sports, major concerts every week, huge shopping districts, or endless nightlife, you’re probably going to feel limited here.

Shopping

Thomasville is a small town. A very active small town. But it’s still a small town.

You might not like living in Thomasville if you need every store imaginable within ten minutes. This one surprises some people. Because Thomasville has more shopping than many towns our size.

But if you’re used to having multiple Costco locations, IKEA, luxury malls, and every major retailer right around the corner, you’re going to find yourself making occasional trips to Tallahassee.

Most locals do it. It’s not a big deal.

But it is reality.

Community

You might not like living in Thomasville if you want complete anonymity.

This is one of those things people laugh about after they move here. Because eventually, you’re going to know people.

You’re going to run into the same faces at the grocery store, church, local restaurants, community events, and even at your kid’s ballgames. And before long, people know who you are.

For many people, that’s one of the best parts of small-town life.

For others, it can feel a little strange.

Jobs

You might not like living in Thomasville if you’re looking for a huge job market.

Now this depends entirely on your profession. Healthcare is strong. Education is strong. Small business ownership is strong.

Many people work remotely. Others commute to Tallahassee. But if you’re looking for the kind of career opportunities you find in Atlanta, Charlotte, or Dallas, Thomasville simply isn’t that type of market.

And that’s important to understand before you move.

Hot Weather

You might not like living in Thomasville if you hate hot weather.

Because I’m going to tell you right now… Summer is not playing around down here.

It gets hot. It gets humid. And if you’ve never experienced South Georgia humidity before, prepare yourself. You’ll walk outside some mornings and feel like you’ve stepped directly into a warm blanket.

The upside is that we get mild winters. The downside is that summer likes to remind you who’s in charge.

And while we’re talking about summer…

Gnats

Let’s discuss the unofficial mascot of South Georgia.

Gnats.

Listen. Nobody puts this in relocation guides. Nobody talks about it on real estate websites. But we’re going to talk about it.

The gnats are terrible.

There. I said it.

Every year they arrive like they own the place. They fly into your eyes. They fly into your ears. They fly into your mouth. You’ll be having a perfectly normal conversation outside and suddenly you’re swatting at your face like you’re directing traffic. If you’re from South Georgia, you’re laughing right now because you know exactly what I’m talking about.

And if you’re considering moving here, just know that eventually you’ll become a professional gnat fighter like the rest of us.

Operating Hours

You might not like living in Thomasville if you expect everything to stay open late.

One adjustment some newcomers make is learning that small-town business hours are different.

Many local businesses close earlier.

Some restaurants aren’t open every day.

And on Sundays, things can be noticeably quieter than what people are used to in larger cities.

Personally, I think that’s part of the charm.

But it’s definitely an adjustment for some people.

Airports

You might not like living in Thomasville if you need a major airport close by.

We have regional options nearby and Tallahassee International Airport is about 45 minutes away depending on where you live.

For most residents, that’s completely manageable.

But if you’re someone who flies every week and wants a major airport ten minutes from your house, that’s probably not going to happen here.

Conclusion

Now after saying all of that, here’s what’s interesting.

The very things that some people dislike about Thomasville are often the exact reasons other people move here.

The slower pace. The smaller size. The familiar faces. The lack of traffic. The community feel. The local businesses. The quieter lifestyle.

What feels limiting to one person feels freeing to someone else. And that’s why there’s no such thing as a perfect place to live. Only the place that’s right for you. For me, Thomasville has always been home.

I love the downtown. I love the community events. I love the restaurants. I love the people. I love that life feels a little more personal here. But I also believe in giving people the full picture. Because moving is a big decision.

And the more you know before you get here, the happier you’re likely to be once you arrive.

My team and I love talking with all of you, we have time for you and we’re here for you! We’d love to help you with your home buying or home selling experience.
