Can You ACTUALLY Work From Home in Thomasville Georgia? | Internet, WiFi & Connectivity Explained

Over the last few years, I’ve had SO many buyers ask me this exact question:

“Can I actually work from home in Thomasville… or is the internet going to be a problem?”

And I get it. Because when people think “small town”… they immediately think about slow internet, dropped Zoom calls, buffering Netflix, and hotspotting off your phone just to send an email.

And look, I’m not going to sugarcoat this…There ARE areas where the internet can be a challenge. But that is NOT the full story. Not even close.

If you’re new here, I’m Leslie Bennett, with Bennett Real Estate Company, based right in the heart of Thomasville, Georgia. With years of experience helping people from across the country find their ideal homes in Georgia, I give you straightforward, honest guidance to make the process as smooth and real as possible.
And today… We are talking about something that has completely changed the way people choose where they live…Internet. WiFi. Connectivity.
Because let’s be honest… if the internet doesn’t work nothing else matters.

Alright – Let’s get right into it!

WHAT INTERNET IS REALLY LIKE IN THOMASVILLE

Here’s the truth… and I want you to hear this clearly: You can absolutely work from home in Thomasville, Georgia. But… (and this is important)…It depends on WHERE you live.

That’s the part nobody tells you. Because Thomasville is not just one type of area. You’ve got:

Downtown homes, Established neighborhoods, Newer subdivisions, and then… you’ve got rural properties with acreage. The internet situation can be VERY different depending on which one you choose.

IN-TOWN & NEIGHBORHOODS — THE EASY YES

If you are living in town, near downtown, or in a neighborhood or subdivision, then you’re going to be just fine. In fact, you’ll be better than fine.

Most of these areas have access to high-speed cable internet, fiber in certain spots, and reliable providers with consistent speeds. I have plenty of clients working remotely right now doing zoom calls all day, uploading large files, and running full businesses from home with zero issues.

So if you’re coming from a bigger city and you’re worried you’re going to “lose” your ability to work remotely…You’re not. Not in these areas.

RURAL PROPERTIES — WHERE YOU NEED A PLAN

Now let’s talk about the part that surprises people…the country.

Because Thomasville is known for its land, acreage, privacy, and beautiful quiet settings. And a lot of people moving here WANT that lifestyle. But this is where you need to slow down and ask the right questions because the internet in rural areas can vary A LOT.

Some properties have strong high-speed internet, fiber access (yes—even in some rural spots), or reliable fixed wireless options.

While others…Don’t.

You might be looking at slower DSL, satellite internet, and limited provider options. If you don’t check that BEFORE you buy…that’s when you run into problems. I will say this…over the last couple of years wifi has really improved in a lot of rural areas as the utility companies have been running fiber to more and more homes.  I personally live in the country and it wasn’t until last year that we finally got access to high speed internet.  Prior to that we had starlink which was the best thing we had ever had until our power company finally ran the fiber down my road.

REAL LIFE EXAMPLE (THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME)

I’ve had buyers fall in LOVE with a property that has a beautiful house on gorgeous land and it’s exactly what they’ve been dreaming of… then we check the internet…and find out that it’s not going to support what they need.

And that becomes a deal-breaker.

So here’s the lesson you need to learn: you don’t just fall in love with the house…you verify the internet FIRST.

WHAT MOST PEOPLE DON’T REALIZE

Here’s something a lot of people don’t think about…Internet availability is not just based on “area”. It can change street by street. Even house by house.

I’ve seen situations where one side of the road has fiber while the other side doesn’t. One neighborhood will have great speeds, but the next one over doesn’t.

So you cannot assume anything. You have to check the exact address.

WHAT YOU SHOULD BE ASKING BEFORE YOU BUY

If you are relocating and working remotely… these are the questions that matter:

“What providers service this exact address?”, “What speeds are ACTUALLY available—not just advertised?”, “Is there fiber, cable, or only satellite?”, and “What do the current homeowners use?”.

And this is something my team and I help with ALL the time. Because this is not something you want to figure out after closing.

THE SURPRISE FOR MOST PEOPLE

Here’s what ends up happening for a lot of people moving here…

They come in worried about the internet…and then realize that it’s actually not the issue they thought it would be. In town, it’s easy. In the country, it’s manageable—with the right setup.

And what they gain is less traffic, less stress, more space, and a slower, better pace of life without giving up their ability to work.

My team and I love talking with all of you, helping you figure out what’s going to work best for YOU, not just what looks good online.
